Athletic Awards Ceremony

Tuesday night placed our scholastic athletes back in the spotlight as they were celebrated with an award ceremony arranged by the RCS Sports Association at the high school on May 30.

Acclaimed scholastic athletes of note were distinguished with awards including Senior Athlete Plaques, RCS Scholar Athlete Award, RCS Sportsmanship Award, RCS Coaches Award, and Athlete of the Year.

Senior Athlete Plaques This year, 18 students earned senior athlete plaques. These plaques are awarded to seniors who have earned four or more varsity letters in their career.

RCS Scholar Athlete Awards
Awarded to a male and female athlete who have earned two varsity letters during their senior year and have a high GPA among all senior athletes and had at least one outstanding season.

RCS Sportsmanship Awards
Awarded to a male and female senior athlete who earned two varsity letters during their senior year and showed the most respect towards their fellow teammates, coaches, spectators, fans and opponents. Nominees must also be a good school citizen. Selected by a committee of RCS Coaches.

Awarded to a male and female senior athlete who earned two varsity letters during their senior year and represented "Respect-Courage-Strength" through their athletic career. These nominees have gone above and beyond in competitive situations. Selected by a committee of RCS Coaches.

Athlete of the Year
Awarded to a female and male senior athlete who have earned a minimum of two varsity letters during their senior year while being outstanding in one sport. These nominees must have been good school citizens, and have shown respect towards teammates and coaches. Selected by a committee of RCS Coaches.

NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team
At the end of each sports season, the NYSPHSAA honors those teams and individuals that excel in the classroom. Those student-athletes, teams, and schools work very hard throughout the year and deserve to be recognized for their academic success. 

To receive Scholar-Athlete team recognition with a certificate, the team’s average GPA for 75% of the roster must be greater than or equal to 90.00.

Individuals on a team that did not qualify to be a Scholar-Athlete team but possesses a 90.00 or above GPA are still eligible to receive a pin and will be considered an Individual Scholar-Athlete.
