Health Services

School health services at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District (RCS CSD), are provided by professional registered nurses. Our school nurses support the physical, mental, and social-emotional health of students and their success in the learning process. A variety of school health services are provided for students and staff. These services are based on current evidence, best practices, and professional school nursing standards in collaboration with our district medical director. This document provides an introduction to health services at RCSCSD as a printable version.

Staying Healthy & Staying in School

It is important to remember that students and staff who do not feel well should not come to school or work to help prevent the spread of illnesses. If you have any questions, please reach out to your school nurse.

When Keep Your Child Home Due to Illness
It can be hard to know when to send children to school if they tell you that they do not feel well. This document provides information about school attendance.

Preventing and Managing Flu
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) provide helpful resources on the signs and symptoms, what to do if sick, and ways to protect and care for yourself and your family.

Hand Sanitizer Use In School
Hand-washing is the best way to stop the spread of germs and keep everyone healthy. Our school district offers students the opportunity to wash their hands using soap and water and also provides alcohol-based hand sanitizers (ABHS). Information about ABHS at school and tips on how to use it effectively are available here. If you have any questions, please reach out to your school nurse.

Tick Bites and Tick Removal at School
Upon discovery of a tick bite, students are brought directly to the school nurse for care. Per the New York State Education Department, parents/guardians must provide permission for tick removal by the school nurse. This permission is needed each school year.
