Youth Art Month Photos of Students with their Art Work

In celebration of Youth Art Month the Ravena Coeymans Selkirk Art Department participated in two local art shows sponsored by the New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA) Region 6. NYSATA Region 6 includes school districts in Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schoharie, Schenectady, Warren, and Washington counties. We are so proud of our students who participated in the 15th Annual K-8 Empire State Plaza Art Collection Exhibition and the 25th Annual High School Regional Juried Exhibition.

The Empire State Plaza Art Collection Exhibition is a one-of-a-kind exhibition displaying a collaboration between the Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza Art Collection, the Capital Area Art Supervisors, and the New York State Art Teachers Association. The exhibit, held each year during National Youth Art Month, features works of art created by students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Four 5th grade students from A.W. Becker participated in this year’s display. Autumn Adams, Victoria Beach, Marabella Forezzi, and Catherine Keller created marble paintings inspired by the abstract expressionist work of artist Jackson Pollock.

The 25th Annual High School Regional Juried Exhibition is a showcase of the best artwork from the New York Capital Region’s high school students from 27 public districts or private schools. This year’s exhibition was hosted by The Opalka Gallery located on the Russell Sage College campus and out of a staggering 590 submissions only 103 artworks were selected by jurors Nuveen Barwari, Tara Fracalossi, and Leah Rico. A huge congratulations to Alisson Kennedy (grade 11) and Carl-Hanee Coquillon (grade 12) whose work was selected for the exhibition.

“I am very proud of all the thought and dedication that both Allison and Hanee have put into their portfolios this year. The opening reception was a fantastic opportunity for our students to view artwork created by their peers in surrounding districts.” - Christina Wallace
