RCS District Logo

Although the pandemic restrictions made things incredibly difficult for the Arts this year, students in the Music Department and Drama Clubs preserved and were able to participate in many of the traditional performances and events, although in very new and non-traditional ways!

NYSSMA Solo Festivals

Approximately 75 students throughout the district participated in the NYSSMA Solo Festivals this season. Some students on multiple instruments and voice, as well as in both classical and jazz styles.  Students had to submit videos of their required solos and technical elements, and everyone received high scores for these virtual performances.  We are especially proud of junior Renee Rivers for earning a perfect score of 100 on her Level VI All-State Flute Solo!

Spring Concerts

The Music Department was thrilled to have one end-of-season concert this year for each ensemble.  The auditorium was not feasible as a concert space due to the necessary social distancing, so our music ensembles performed in the main gym.  The High School Band and Jazz Ensemble performed on June 3rd, the High School Chorus and Harmonics on June 4th, and the 8th Grade Band and Chorus on June 17th.  Performing with all of the required safety measures, each concert showcased our student musicians and the hard work they put in throughout the year, despite this year’s many unique challenges. At the High School concerts, our seniors were allowed two guests and were honored for their great musical success and dedication to the music department.  The Music Department would like to especially thank Mr. Dorrance and the High School P.E. Department for helping them to have their first-ever concerts in the gym.

Drama Club

The show must go on!  The many rules in place for students and audience attendance prohibited these clubs from producing their usual musical productions, so each club created virtual performances for students and families to enjoy!  The Middle School Drama Club put on a virtual Cabaret, which included solo and group performances, all performed virtually and engineered by members of the club and its directors.  The High School Drama Club also filmed a completely virtual Cabaret, along with two plays, which were able to be filmed on the RCS High School Stage.  The plays are The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon and Almost, Maine.  (These Cabarets and Plays will be available to watch through the Drama Club members.)

The Music Departments and Drama Clubs are incredibly happy they were able to provide meaningful musical experiences for our students while continuing to support their safety and social and emotional well-being.
