A.W. Becker Elementary Opens Book Vending Machine for Students

A.W. Becker opened its new book vending machine in a small ceremony this week. Members from the PTA, fourth-grade teachers, and their former students who helped work on the project were in attendance.

This idea started last year in Ms. Campbell, Mrs. Murray, and Mrs. Bohl’s fourth-grade classes as a discussion on ways to reward students with free books who exhibit positive attitudes, show respect for others, and go beyond as a student. The former fourth graders worked together to write letters to their PTA and Building Leadership to ask for the incentive. “This is truly an example of authentic project-based learning,” Principal Debra Neubart said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. "Student outreach to the community for support and involvement with teacher guidance resulted in a product to benefit all. Kudos to the teachers and students on a job well done!"

The book vending machine was purchased and stocked with books by the PTA. Students will receive tokens from their teacher to retrieve a free book of their choosing from the machine.

Thank you to our amazing PTA for supporting A.W. Becker’s educational endeavors. Students and Staff are sure to enjoy this machine for many years.
